#HappyNewYear Hello 2016!

Well, just like that we've said goodbye to 2015, and hello to 2016. It's crazy to me how fast last year really went by. It seems like every year just goes by quicker than the previous year.

One thing I did in 2015, that I'm so happy I did and I totally recommend to all of you, is posting one photo a day on my Instagram. It allowed me to scroll through my Instagram and see what I did on every day of the year, and relive some of my favorite moments with my family and friends. If you think you can dedicate the time to posting one photo a day, I say go for it. I promise you won't regret it.

2015 was full of a ton of crazy experience. I grew my brand beyond what I ever thought I could, I interviewed people that I've been dying to speak with, I attended events that I used to watch on television, and I made some amazing memories with friends, old and new.

All in all, 2015 will go down as the year when I started to realize that all of my hard work hadn't gone unnoticed. I'm excited for the future, and I cannot wait to see what the rest of 2016 will bring.

I hope all of you have a Happy New Year, and I hope that 2016 will be everything you want it to be.

Be Different. Be You.

It's no surprise that I haven't been posting on my blog for quite sometime now. I wish I had a valid excuse, or an interesting story to justify my absence,  but the truth is, I don't have either. I just haven't been inspired to post on this blog for a little while, and so I decided to take a break.

I had been blogging since I was about 14-years-old and posting everything from celebrity interviews, to media coverage, to personal stories, all over the internet for 8 years. I wanted to be selfish and have some time to myself to really discover who I am as a person.

Of course, during that time some amazing things happened. I started working for J-14. Dylan and I have been working with some extremely talented individuals to create new music that we cannot wait to share. And, I've found a pretty solid friend group, which if you live in LA, you know is a rarity out here.

I think that I am ready to come back to this blog now. I don't know how frequently I'll post, and the content is going to be different. I really want to start using this blog as Lifestyle blog, and of course, a hint of pop culture here and there, as well as videos with my friends.

After spending some quality time with myself, I realized that I was trying so hard to fit in with everyone, when all I needed to do was stand out, and be myself. It's okay to be different. That's what makes us all who we are. Accept what makes you different, and embrace it. I promise you will be happier. We spend so much time trying to fit this perfect mold that society created, that we forget to live our own lives, and make our own choices. I'm kind of ranting now, but the point of this post is simple; it's in the title. Be different. Be you.

Do It for the Gram! A Detailed Guide on Instagram Themes and Why They're Important

Okay, so I was recently talking with my friend Tamara, who most of you know as my fashion blogger, Malibu Mara, and we were discussing how much blogging has changed. One of the things we really noticed was that Instagram has become the new "blog."  No one wants to read anymore, so they all go to their favorite blogger's Instagram page, and get a glimpse into their life through photos.

This, of course, has changed the way that bloggers, and really anyone who is building a brand, uses the social media app. Yes, I am talking about Instagram themes. So, what exactly is a theme, and why is everyone so obsessed with having a "good one?"

In short, an Instagram theme is really just a feed that is aesthetically pleasing. It forces bloggers, and anyone who wants a nice feed, to be cautious about the pictures they choose to upload.

I'll be the first to admit that I've fallen victim to this social media trap, and work super hard on keeping my theme.

You can check out my feed below, along with some of other great Instagram feeds.

Quick Tips:

But how do you make your feed pleasing to the eye? I've broke down a few basic rules that can help you turn your Instagram feed into the envy of your followers.

Color: This may seem obvious, but it is also one of the most difficult things about keeping an Instagram theme. In order for all of your pictures to truly flow, you are going to want to focus in on about one, to three colors. Once you have identified your main colors, the rest of your photos should feature these colors. There are ways around this. For example, I chose white as my main color, but I use an app called FaceTune that lets me whiten anything, and change a color into white. It's a life saver.

Apps: Speaking of Apps, that brings us to my second tip. Finding the right app, or apps, is super important, and once you have them, make sure you stick to the same editing pattern for every photo. It will allow for your feed to stay super cohesive, even when the subject of the photos may vary.

Lighting and Texture: My last quick tip involves lighting and texture. Again, this may seem obvious, but the more well lit your photo is, the easier it will be to edit. Also, it's actually been proven that brighter photos tend to get more likes than darker photos. Texture can also play a big role in a photo. A well lit photo against a brick wall is going to get more likes than a selfie in your room. People are getting picky on Instagram and want quality. So, what happens when we don't have the brick wall, or textured surface? Using certain apps you can sharpen and add clarity to an image. This makes your photo look higher quality, and you will also get more likes.

So there you have it; everything you need to know about an Instagram theme, and how to get one started.  I know it may seem silly, but keeping an Instagram theme can really help with your brand, and for me at least, it can also be fun. Do you have an Instagram feed that you're proud of? Let me know so I can check it out!

I recently had the chance to attend the 5th Annual VH1 Streamy Awards in Hollywood, California, for J-14 Magazine, and what a night it was!

The show, which honors online creators including YouTubers, Viners, YouNowers, and more, was aired on VH1 for the first time, which signified a huge step forward for team internet.

Being a part of team internet myself, it was such a humbling experience to be a part of the crowd at the Streamy's. Social media stars such as Frankie Grande, Cameron Dallas, iJustine, Jack and Jack, and countless others lined the carpet and I got to speak with all of them!

Be sure to check out www.j-14.com, later this week to see all of my interviews.

Malibu Mara is a Catfish no more! After working together for almost five years, and blogging for just as long, I finally got to meet my fashion blogger, Malibu Mara, in person.

Mara and I finally got to meet when she and her boyfriend, Kyle, came to California for San Diego Comic-Con. Of course, you know we had to meet up in LA since we were finally in the same state.

I want to thank Tamara and Kyle for taking the time out of their vacation to come see Dylan and I. I'm glad we could finally meet after all these years, and I look forward to working together for many more years to come.
